My name is Jack Kargl.
I am a graphic designer with experience in apparel, packaging, publication, and trademark design among other categories.
I am a young designer born and raised in Dayton, OH. In 2020, during my sophomore year at the University of Dayton, I interviewed and was hired as the Assistant Designer and Editor of Orpheus Art & Literary Magazine. This prestigious position began my love of publication design. As I took on the Lead Designer and Editor position my senior year, my role evolved from setting type and brainstorming themes to full on art direction and execution. Along the way I worked on the Spring 2021 issue, which won a Bronze Award from the American Advertising Foundation Hermes Awards and the Fall 2021 issue which can be found via the site menu.
Independent of my academic work, I created the brand Burnt Pancakes in late 2019 in as an avenue for my interest in t-shirt design. What began with a cheap press, some dyes and inks, and a box of shirts has grown into a small business that has sold over 500 separate apparel items. The shirts and sweatshirts I sell are tie dyed, printed, and shipped all by me. A link to the store can be found in the site menu.
I view myself as a sort of “chameleon designer” because I don’t have a set style. While my projects may have similarities, I am constantly changing my approach to best fit my client’s needs. I use my sound technical skills in whatever way is needed to best complete the job at hand.
